The Language Baggage: Unpacking Language Ideologies Among Young Filipino-Canadians

Workshop description: Can we move forward in life without leaving our mother tongues behind? A first among young Filipino migrants in Canada, this workshop explores how we feel, what we think, and our experiences about the languages we carry, and the role we play in ensuring they don’t end up as lost baggage.

Chareena Quirante identifies as a doctoral scholar on Indigenous language research, a third-generation Yogad speaker, and migrant. On other days, she is a language professor, a podcaster, and a typical millennial tita.
